If you open your heart and mind to God as you once had known him, where will it lead? Can you handle such a massive change? And where will you begin?

I left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was fifteen years old. After twenty years of trying to define myself outside the constructs of the church, I decided to give it an honest inspection again, giving in to the feeling tugging me back to where I had started. I wished for someone who had been through it themselves to hold my hand as I dived back in, but I never could find the sort of friend I was looking for. Now that I’ve been through it, I want to share my journey with you.

You may be wondering where to begin. You may have habits to break, choices to make, and a myriad of changes—oh so many changes your friends may change, your family may not accept your choice, your routines, your wardrobe, your finances. In short, everything will change. But not to worry, “The Lord will meet you where you are, as you are, but He doesn’t intend to leave you there.” – Emily Belle Freeman

If you feel overwhelmed by all the changes, an invitation from Alma reminds us “if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you.” If you believe in your ability to lean on the Lord, to overcome the doubts and fears and reservations, He will deliver you.

The Lord loves effort!

I am doing it.

You can do it too.

  1. Thank you Sarah for sharing your story. I have come to believe after trying to gain satisfaction from the material world also. The light of Christ is truly the most powerful force on the earth.
